Dr. Udaya Prashant got his FRACP (Cardiology) qualification from Royal Australasian College of Physicians after finishing his Heart Failure Fellowship at the prestigious Fiona Stanley Hospital, Perth, and became an imaging expert (Advanced Echocardiography and CT Coronary Angiography) after doing Cardiology Imaging Fellowship at Mount Hospital, Perth. He later completed two years of Complex Coronary Interventions Fellowship at The Townsville Hospital and started working as a consultant cardiologist at the Mater Hospitals. Before these Fellowships, he did his basic training [M.B.B.S, MD (General Medicine)] and Advanced Cardiology Training (D.M) from premier institutions of India like JIPMER, Puducherry and Grant Medical College, Mumbai. He then worked as a consultant cardiologist in some of the best cardiac centers of India like Narayana Hrudalaya, Bangalore, and CARE Banjara, Hyderabad.
To date, he has performed several thousands of coronary interventions and has good exposure in doing structural heart interventions like PBMV, ASD closure, TAVI, etc. He has several international publications in reputed journals like JACC (Ranked as top cardiology journal in the world), BMJ, JIC (Journal of Invasive Cardiology), and Polish Journal of Interventional Cardiology. He had written a book on “Evaluation of Unexplained Syncope”, which is a very common problem in cardiology. He served as a reviewer for international cardiology journals like Catheterization Cardiovascular Interventions.
Besides, he has done many pioneering works in the fields of biomedical engineering and interventional cardiology. He holds a patent for generating pulsatile flows from steady-state flows using fluid-structure interactions in collapsible tubes. This discovery has a wide range of applications including a better understanding of hemodynamics of the cardiovascular system. He developed a novel method of preventing no-reflow in acute myocardial infarction patients with large thrombus burden by distal intracoronary infusion of nicorandil mixed with an iodinated contrast solution and saved many lives when he was working in CARE Hospitals.
Overall, he has extensive exposure in managing all types of acute and chronic cardiology patients. With more than 15 years of dedicated cardiology experience, he promises to deliver high-quality cardiac services to your patients including preventive cardiology advice for those suffering from chronic heart ailments.
