India bounded by the exotic Himalayan ranges and enchanting beaches; is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. The Republic of India, often referred as India is a big and a beautiful country which is rich in diversity. Enriched with an amazing history, magnificent historical monuments, colorful festivals and culture, India is undoubtedly one of the most visited countries in the world. India is in the Asian continent and is the seventh largest country covering an area of about 3.1 million square kilometers. With a population of over 1.1 billion, India is also the second most populated country in the world. The capital of India is New Delhi which is in the northern India and the largest city of India is Mumbai. The currency of India is rupees where 1 rupee is equal to 100 paisa.

Languages in India

As mentioned earlier, India is a vast country with cultural diversity. There are as many as 325 languages spoken in India. According to the Indian Constitution, Hindi is the official national language of India. Hindi is also the mother tongue of over 20% of the Indian population, especially in northern India. English language is the second official language that is used in India. The best part of India is that, there are 27 states in India and each state has its own official language. But majority of the people in urban areas  can speak Engilsh. 

Weather in India 

India has different types of weather in different parts of the country. It has a good climate with mainly four seasons. They are summer, monsoon, post-monsoon and winter.

Summer Season (Pre-Mansoon)

Summer also called as pre-monsoon season starts in April and lasts till the month of June. The hottest season in southern India is April, and for northern India, May is the hottest month with a temperature as high as 44 degree celsius in some of the places.

Monsoon season

Monsoon or the rainy season starts soon after summer, that is, from June to September. The southern part of the country receives heavy rainfall when compared to other parts.

Post monsoon season

Post mansoon season starts from the October and lasts till December. During this time of the year, the weather in India is said to be very pleasant. 

Winter season

 

Winter season starts in December and lingers till the month of March. December and January are said to the coldest months, when the temperature in northern India drops down to around 10 degree Celsius, whereas in the southern regions it ranges from 20 to 25 degree Celsius.

India is well known for its rich heritage and culture and undoubtedly every city in India depicts its own tradition and culture. Each city is well known for its uniquness. Now let us take a look at a few major cities of India. 

Delhi

Delhi is the capital city of India. It is a wonderful city with amazing monuments and landmarks. Delhi is said to be the only capital in the whole world with people hailing from different religions, living together in peace and harmony. There are many places of interest in Delhi. They are the Jantar Mantar, Bahai temple, Gateway of India, etc. The best season to visit Delhi is between October to March because both summer as well as winter in Delhi is extreme.

Bangalore

Bangalore is the most elegant and happening metropolis in India. It is the capital city of Karnataka state. It is located around 1000m above the sea level and is one of the major industrial and commercial centers of the country. Bangalore also has into its credit of being called as the ‘Silicon valley of India’. It is the IT centre of our country. Bangalore is also called the Garden city for having over hundreds of parks, and also trees being planted on the either sides of the roads. There are many places of interest in Bangalore. They are the Vidhana Soudha, Bull temple, Lal bagh, and Cubbon Park.

Kolkata (Calcutta)

Kolkata, formerly called as Calcutta is the capital of West Bengal and has a population of over ten million people. It is located in eastern India on the banks of the river Hooghly. Kolkata is the main business hub of eastern India. The official language of Kolkata is Bengali. There are many places in Kolkata that will interests you. A few of them are the Howrah Bridge, Victoria Memorial, Shahid Minar, The Armenian Church, Rabindra Sarani, and the Belur Matt, which is the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Mission.

Ahmedabad

The former capital of Gujarat, Ahmedabad is the seventh largest metropolis of India. It is named after its founder, Sultan Ahmed Shah in the early 14th Century. The city is mainly associated with the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, who was born in this city. Ahmedabad is a textile centre of India. The retail Industry is one of the largest employers in the city. There are many places to visit in Ahmadabad. They are the Gandhi Ashram also called as the Sabarmati Ashram, Jama Masjid, Calico Museum, Hussain- Doshi’s Gufa, and the Akshardham temple.

Mumbai (Bombay)


Mumbai, formerly called as Bombay, is located on the west coast of India. It is the capital city of Maharashtra. It is the second most populated city in the entire world with a population of around 15 million. Mumbai is also the richest city in India since it is the most industrialized city of the country. Being a commercial and entertainment centre, it is the liveliest city in the entire country. Let us highlight a few places to visit in Mumbai. The first place to be visited is the Gateway of India, which is the landmark of Mumbai. Next is the Sassoon dock where fishing boats come in and unload their catch. There are many other places of historical importance. They are St. Johns church, The Prince of Wales Museum, The Jahangir Art Gallery, Flora Fountain, the Marine Drive, and the Victoria Terminus. Chennai (Madras)


Chennai, formerly known as Madras is the capital city of Tamil Nadu. Though the city is the fourth largest city in the country, it is comparatively less polluted. The city has come up with many industries like the textile industry, automobile industry and other engineering plants. The city has to its credit, the Marina beach, which is the second biggest beach in the world. Chennai has many tourist attractions like the Kapaleswara temple, Madras Harbor, St. Mary’s church, National Deer Park, the Government museum,art gallery, etc.

Thiruvananthapuram is the capital city of Kerala, one of the most sought-after tourist destinations. Located in the southern tip of India, Thiruvananthapuram has a year long moderate climate with beautiful beaches, hill stations, backwaters, and exotic wildlife.
