Subclavian steal syndrome is a condition in which the artery that normally pumps blood from the heart to the brain becomes constricted or blocked, leading to a reversal in the direction of blood flow. It is constellation of signs and symptoms that arise from retrograde (reversed) flow of blood in the vertebral artery or the internal thoracic artery, due to a proximal stenosis (narrowing) and/or occlusion of the subclavian artery. This phenomenon may occur when the subclavian artery is occluded proximal to the origin of the vertebral artery.

Pulmonary Atresia is a congenital condition wherein the pulmonary valve tends to stop functioning. The pulmonary valve is almost closed which in turn results in the shunting of the blood. In simple terms it is a defect that is seen at the time of birth of the child which is mainly caused due to the abnormal development of the heart at the time when the child is still in its mother’s womb.
